Wedding at Nolhaga/Bröllop på Nolhaga

The table of honor is decorated with centerpieces in off-white and gold
and the exclusive golden Mateus ceramics, designed in Sweden and crafted in Portugal.

This past weekend, a lovely young couple got married at Nolhaga Slott, where I work. It was the first of many weddings that I will have the pleasure to plan, decorate and serve this year.

The S in gold on our chinaware stands for Slott (= castle).

It was a small and intimate ceremony, which was also held in the Castle, and then the dinner and party followed in one of our beautiful dining rooms called Salong Alströmer.

The fireplace is an original and was placed in the dining room
when the castle was first built by Claes Adelsköld in1880.

Please, step in to the Alströmer dining room through the original 1880´s doors!

If you too would be interested in holding a celebration at Nolhaga Slott, it could be a wedding, but it can also be an anniversary, a birthday, a christening or even a funeral, do contact us at +46(0)322-617300 or info@nolhagaslott.se.

The sure knew how to make ceilings in the 1880's!

Junk Food - the real thing!

Colorful eye cathers on my kitchen shelves!/Ett färgglatt blickfång på mina kökshyllor!

The latest addition to my cooking book collection is this colorful and fun book by Liselotte Forslin and Ulrika Ekbom, who also publish the e-magazine Le Parfait, which I wrote about here and the book Lantlig Spis, which I won in a competition last year.

The book is a revenge on behalf of the much yelled at "junk food", not the salty, fatty junk food you find in the burger place or fish shop down the street, but the real thing - the junk food you make yourself, with fresh produce and from scratch, and it can actually be really healthy and tasty! Obviously, eating too much of anything is bad for you.
It is a fun and refreshing book with recipes with inspiration from the fast food from Italy, USA, Mexico and The Middle East.

Homemade mayo
(Recipe from Junk Food, translated by Qvintessentials)

2 egg yolks
1 tsp french mustard
2 tsp lemon juice (freshly pressed)
2 dl olive oil
1 ml salt

Place yolks, mustard and lemon juice in a narrow mixing bowl. Use a mixer or blender and pour the oil in while mixing, a very small amount at a time at first and then increase while constantly mixing until the mayonnaise thickens. Add the salt.

Flavor with garlic, curry and finely grated apple, chili, smoked paprika, herbs, capers.. or keep it natural. Enjoy on a homemade burger, sandwich or dip your homemade fries in it!

Hemmagjord majonnäs
(Recept från Junk Food)

2 äggulor
1 tsk fransk senap
2 tsk pressad citron
2 dl olivolja
1 krm salt

Key lime pie with blueberries

A lovely sweet, sour, smooth and crunchy key lime pie,
served with blueberries and whipped cream

I have posted this recipe before, but it is so worth repeating! I have also made some changes to the recipe since the last time, and removed one of the steps, to make this lovely dessert even more quick and easy to make!

Key Lime Pie
4-6 servings/small pies or one large

200 grams digestive biscuits
50 g butter

Melt the butter and crumble the biscuits. Mix together and divide evenly in bottom of the pie dishes/cocottes.

400 g condensed milk
4 egg yolks
1 dl freshly pressed lime juice

Heat the oven to 175°C. Mix the condensed milk, egg yolks and the lime juice in a bowl. Do not whip, just mix until it is smooth!
Pour into the pie dishes/cocottes and bake in the middle of the preheated oven for 15 minutes (A little longer if you make one large pie).

Let cool a little and serve with whipped cream and blueberries.
SIMPLY AMAZING!

The Le Creuset cocottes are nice for making individual pies and are lovely to serve in!

Have a great weekend!

2011 revised.

Mmm. Somehow, the year of 2011 was suddenly over and 2012 was here.
I'm not actually sure I was completely done with 2011 when it so abruptly ended. You see, 2011 was a very special year to me. 2011 was the year I together with indispensable classmates and much loved friends struggled through the hardest parts of my studies. It was the year I finally graduated and got my Bachelor's degree in Oxford. 2011 was the year my husband and I moved back to Sweden and after ten years of somewhat indeterminate traveling and moving finally decided what "home" is and will be for the coming years. In 2011 I turned 25 and both my parents turned 50 and we had the maddest party ever and celebrated with friends and family for weeks. In 2011 I re-engaged in old as well as new friendships and gained much more joy than I even could have imagined from them. In 2011 I stood up for myself and resigned from a job because it did not correspond with my personal values. In 2011 my parents realized that all their kids are now adults. 2011 was the year I applied for, to my great joy advanced and finally got a job I only thought I could dream of. In 2011 I translated a book, in which I am very proud to have my name printed. In 2011 my husband and I celebrated 4 years of marriage and 8 years together. In 2011 I ran my first 10 kilometer race and achieved my best result so far. In 2011 I sang at my first concert for many, many years and absolutely loved it. In 2011 dear friends got engaged, had babies, some moved too far away and some moved closer. Friends fell ill and recovered. Others fell in love, some for the first time and some all over again. In 2011 I laughed, I cried, I lived, I loved and as we enter the new year of 2012 I look back with much joy and gratefulness for everything I have experienced during the year.

I wish you all a happy, blessed, exciting, and eventful new year!
Now, lean back, listen to this song by Diana Krall and think of all the small and big blessings in your life!
